American Mountain Classic (click here to visit their website AMC) Bike Four Day Stage Race is a nationally recognized endurance race and it’s happening right here in Brian Head, Utah this weekend. At a unfamiliar elevation of 10,000 feet, the world’s top riders will be challenged physically. Brian Head is the perfect location for the stage races with terrain and temperature unbeatable. (click here to view race details)
Some of America’s top athletes in all categories and age groups will be competing in this race. According to Tom Speigel, the AMC-Brian Head director, “150 people have already signed up to compete in this race. 25 of them are pro-men racers. 15 are pro-women racers. This is a very good turn out and numbers should double at next years event.” This is a great start to a national and perhaps an international competition.
Some of America’s top riders will be here including Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (JHK of Subaru Gary Fisher), Sid Taberley (Sho Air), Jeremiah Bishop (Trek) and Tinker Juarez (Two time Olympian and recently won the Solo 24 Hour World Championship) are some of the top men competitors. Women competitors include Lea Davison and Heather Irmiger. When you come to watch you will not be disappointed with the action.
Tom Speigel - Brian Head
Speigel was very pleased to have great sponsors and support. Preparation is a lot of work for his team of about 20 people. Team Sho-Air and Brian Head Ski Resort are the two sponsors for this spectacular event. The winners are competing for up to $20,000 in prizes. “This could be one of the highest paid single events in the nation” said Speigel. All racers will receive a jersey and medals according to their ranking. “We couldn’t do it without our sponsors and we want them to be recognized.”
The favored feature of this event is the location in Brian Head, Utah. Speigel initially wanted to take the event from Cedar City to Moab but the plan didn’t work out. It spread racers out and made transportation more difficult. This made it difficult for amateurs and/or solo racers to participate. “Brian Head helps provide more for racers by allows for more support groups, Brian Head minimizes transportation necessities and has a better terrain” said Speigel. “Besides, Brian Head has excellent world class riding. It’s perfect.”
Although Brian Head doesn’t have a lake, Yankee Meadow Lake is only about 15 minutes away. It’s a great spot for fishing and canoeing. Our family went on a little boating trip to Yankee Meadow so I thought I’d share it with you.
Yankee Meadow’s campground is only a mile away from the lake. Availability is on a first come first serve basis. If you like chancing it, then just show up, but I always recommend reserving before hand so you aren’t disappointed.
The campground has trailor spots, tent spots, fresh piped water, RV hookups, fire rings, tables, two vaulted and comfortable restrooms, and garbage cans. If you are looking for a nice clean campground this is worth experiencing.
Are ATV’s allowed? You better believe it. There are many trails around the area but don’t get caught riding off the trails unless you want heavy fines. Call (435) 865-3200 for a Markagunt ATV System map. Fees are only $10 per night (click here for complete list).
This one goes out to the one I love. Rosalee and I have been married now eight years. We have been very blessed as we have traveled all over the world, moved many times, we have three kids and are enjoying life and Brian Head. We have the best kids in the world so I have to show off my family on this great day.
Members of the town council sat and listened to visitors and property owners express their support or opposition to the annexation. They felt that those who oppose the annexation feel that there is no confidence in the town committee in the continued growth of Brian Head. Will they receive a direct benefit? Yes. Will it be immediate? Perhaps.
The town council feels that it is in benefit to the area to be annexted. There will be a benefit to keep more funds inside the town. Public safety time will respond quicker. Fire insurance is much less as a city property owner. The town will help the property owners develop. Brian Head town will now help to regulate the growth instead of the county and standards will be kept within the town guidlines. The town can help regulate and help property owners come and build. There is an officer on duty for immediate emergency for the surroundign areas.
As Jim Ortler member of the town council, “We live in the mountains. This is a forest. Fire is the biggest concern for property owners. The town fire department and mitigation requirements will make this a safer area and community.” He made the motion to pass the annexation.
A local from Utah needs everyone’s help. One of the largest downhill races believe it or not makes racers qualify by receiving votes. KEVIN TALBOT is the only contestant left from Utah and is close to making the qualifications. HE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT.
“Brian Head is one of the best places to downhill” Kevin says, “this place is known nationally and I come every year to ride here”.
I met Kevin in Brian Head at the base of the downhill track at the resort. He has been through a lot and now at age 40 is beating the odds and competing in the most competitive races there is. HE NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT.
I have been nominated to lead a new committee (FAM Committee) that has been formed in Brian Head to help familiarize visitors with the town of Brian Head and to aid the Chamber of Commerce in promoting, marketing and reaching out to local businesses. It has been exciting to see local business owners meet and come up with ideas to enhance ones experience on the mountain. We meet about every two weeks to discuss how we, as a whole can improve the visitors’ experience. All are invited to attend.
A Visitor’s Guide is currently being printed for local businesses to place in their hotels, shops, eateries, and rentals or condos and/or cabins. Brian Head Chamber members are allowed one page to promote their business and include anything they desire to put on their page. This will encourage membership of local businesses to participate in the Brian Head Chamber of Commerce. The binder will be updated twice a year in April and in November.
Ski In Ski out properties have dropped in price. What was once $435,000 for 1.36 acre parcel property is now being sold at $297,000. This is a huge price drop and is a great price for ski in/ski out property offered by the Brian Head Resort Realty. This is a 32% price drop.
I’ll bet your happy you didn’t buy yet, but this is now a great opportunity.

Many people don’t know how to search for real estate listings in Brian Head. I have set up a search feature for the public to use for their own searching. You can now search all listings that are on the multiple listing service in Brian Head.
Go to my real estate page in this blog. http://scottsinsite.wordpress.com/real-estate-new/. Click on the first link – Search MLS Listings. You will come to a page that looks like the image to the right. Here you can set your search criteria and see the listings that interest you most. Why is this good? Because you don’t get hounded by ungly Realtors such as myself. If you find a property you like, then you can inquire with your Realtor.
Another cool feature that I have to set up is an automatic email for new listings. For example; say you are looking for a 2 bedroom condo and don’t want to spend more than $300,000. Every new listing will be automatically emailed to you so you are the first to know of the new properties for sale.
Who does this help? Everyone! The seller gets his/her property shown quicker. The buyer gets the first option to purchase this home/condo/property. The Realtor(s) can also represent his/her clients better by increaseing the exposure.
Take advantage of this great feature. Send me an email, tell me what your perameters are (what you are looking for and what you are willing to spend) and I’ll set it up. Easy as that.
Say you want a list of all new listings. Send me and email (bird.scott@gmail.com) and consider it done.
Today was a day that nobody should miss. If you weren’t here, you need to put it on your calendar for 2009 and be there. Lift Tickets were 50% off for their end of season ski event. The Brian Head Resort had discounts on food and blowout prices on retail merchandise.
A few of the fun activities include: Rail Jam, Shovel Races, On-Snow putting green, Mountain Bike Downhill race on the snow, pond skimming, cardboard sled races, garbage sack races, and even rubber ducky races. There was something for every age.
Winners took home hundredes of dollars in prizes such as cash, snowboards, lift passes and resort paraphernalia.
Brian Head is receiving a lot of publicity these days. And rightfully so. The growth of this little mountain town has been expected and anticipated by many. New developments, new skier bridge, new ski terrain and new people. Brian Head hasn’t been talked about this much for a long-long time.
5 new developments are currently being sold. Each one is heavily marketing and promoting their developments on radio and TV, in magazines and on billboards. (See www.brianheadliving.com to view new developments). From recent conversations with developers and/or their representatives, sales are strong. As of this spring, all new developments will either begin construction or continue from where they finished last year. The market is strong and buyers are taking advantage of the buyers’ market.
The resort spent thousands of dollars promoting the opening of the new Wildflower chair lift and interconnect bridge providing food, entertainment, clothing, hats, discounted lift tickets, fireworks and even Santa Clause was there.
To the left you see a picture of Park City. In the 1950′s, Park City was known as the “Ghost Town of the West”. Today it is one one the country’s most desired recreation towns. Many will dispute that Brian Head will ever experience the same growth as Park City.
Recently Brian Head Resort has undertaken the approval of what is called “The Skier Village“. The exciting news that Brian Head Resort is trying to further their expansion with a 500,000 square foot condo/hotel/commercial development gives visitors hope that someday more entertainment activities and dining options will compliment their experience to Brian Head. So does this sort of growth fit Brian Head? I’d like to hear your comments on that but one thing is for sure the attention will increase, people will continue to discover the town and building will happen. Perhaps the new tagline for Brian Head should be ”New”.
If you didn’t make it up here to Brian Head this weekend, YOU MISSED OUT!!! As always, Red Bull and Brian Head Resort put on a great event at Brian Head Resort’s Giant Steps Lodge. Hundreds of people turned up to see both snowboarders and snowmobilers showing their sick tricks. Take a look at some of these photos. (Will post on Monday)
CJ Gorrin ge (on Polaris), Isaac Sherbine (Ski Doo) and Joe Parsons (Ski Doo) had a friendly competition trying to out do the other as they launched their 450 pound sleds off a 10′ jump. Joe Parsons recenly took a silver in a previous X-Games competition (view Ride). Joe will also be found on ESPN this next year so keep your eyes on him. Isaac has only been in freestyle for about four months and we welcome him to his first demo in Brian Head, Utah. ”I’ve been racing my whole life and its good to be switching things up a bit.”
To give others a taste of what can be done on a snowmobile I’ve found a few YouTube clips that I wanted to include. It’s almost embarrasing showing off my “cool” photos. Check this stuff out (but don’t try this at home):
As most long-time visitors and owners in Brian Head know, Evergreen Condominiums are one of the most sought after ownership opportunities in Brian Head. Not often does a condo become available for sale due to its location, amenities and management care. Just recently, an owner has asked me to sell his condo for him due to the amount of exposure I am able to provide. Now is your opportunity to own an Evergreen Condo – Here’s what you get:
We all know how great it is to have on-site eyes every day. The managers of Evergreen live and breath Brian Head. Their responsibilities are to Evergreen alone so they are not sharing their time with another development. This means that you have a full-time property manager protecting your investment and taking care of common areas.
Evergreen also has one of best cared for community centers with toys and games for all ages including ping-pong, Foosball, a brand new jacuzzi, a lounge area with couches and card tables, outdoor patios and more. You won’t take for granted the well cared for and properly located Evergreen condominium as it sits right next to the new ski lift.
Ski in and ski out from your condo. With the new ski lifts installed and open, you and your guests can strap on your skis or snowboard just outside you door. The roads are taken care of, access is great and your experience will be unbelievable.
About the condo: I’m offering about 1400 square feet of the best country living. It’s an open floor plan with a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, family room on the main floor. It features large open windows two spacious decks that offer relaxing times as you experience great valley and mountain views. You can also sit and relax by the log fireplace. Upstairs you will find an open game room with the master bedroom directly adjacent. The large master bedroom has an attached full bathroom with a wide jacuzzi tub to soak and relax after the long day of fun.
Along with the wonderful floor plan comes two parking opportunities. Not only do you have a parking space under the building in a private and secured garage, but you also will own a separate garage for your ATV’s, snowmobiles, , bicycles, motorcycles and accessories. A private garage is hard to come by in Brian Head and you will quickly find out how great it is to have one of your own.
